Austin LGBTQ+ Therapy
The LGBTQ+ population faces many injustices and prejudices from a heteronormative society which generates fear and sometimes hate against us. That can lead to problems involving oppression, discrimination and marginalization. Each person's experience is as unique as they are and may often include issues and/or traumas along the way. That may explain the elevated risk of suicide and victimization in the population and our Austin therapists are here to help!
Many different experiences can lead someone to seek counseling and can be an individual issue to a broad societal issue including politics, belonging, acceptance, life transitions, legal issues and more. It is also important to remember that coming out is not the only issue faced in the LGBTQ+ community. Marriage, divorce, health, later life issues and even death can lead to a crisis and may be complicated by discrimination, hate, and inequality.
Development is difficult for anyone, but as a person in the LGBTQ+ community, it can take even more work to find your place and authentic self and maintain that over time. Regardless of the reason you seek counseling, you deserve a safe, affirming, supportive, and confidential environment.
It is not the place of others to tell you how to feel or how to live. We are all unique and wonderful and each person should be celebrated.
Here, you will not be judged but will be supported to embrace yourself and who you are in the best way for you! Every staff person at Austin Counseling and Trauma Specialists will be knowledgeable, friendly, supportive, affirming, and kind and will support you in your individual counseling journey.
