Sexual Assault Counseling

 Sexual Assault - Rape

Men and women are both hurt by sexual violence. The term sexual abuse is often associated with children, while sexual assault and rape are associated with adults. No matter the age or what term someone uses, this is about something terrible happening to someone that has a deep and tragic impact.

Far to many people experience some form of sexual violence. Often the perpetrators are family, friends, and acquaintances but strangers seem to be who most people fear related to sexual crimes. No matter who hurts you, the impact is the same; hurt, fear, sadness, anger, worry, and sadly, usually shame and guilt. The impact of sexual abuse and assault is significant and can effect so much of your life and you do not have to live with that.

It is common for people not to speak out due to fear or embarrassment. Sometimes a person is drugged and remembers very little or nothing at all and assume they will not be believed. But the assault was real! When you do not consent, whether you can't or don't want to, and sexual acts are forced, coerced, or happen while you are not conscious, it is assault.

If you have been sexually abused, assaulted, raped, please reach out for support. Healing can happen and trauma can be repaired. Fear often keeps us quiet. Shame keeps us closeted.
